Alternator whine after timing belt replacement

After having my timing belt replaced (as per 90k mile prescription) my factory alternator now whines like a little b**ch, mechanic says my dual battery setup is working it too hard. I had the extra battery w/ isolator and winch installed a few years ago and have never had a problem, but now that I dropped a bunch of cash to get my truck tuned up, it sounds messed up.

Mechanic said the belt was loose before? Everything worked fine as it was...

Anyway, any suggestions as to what my problem might be, or what I might do to fix it? Did this guy F something up?

Anyone have a trusted mechanic for their toyota rig in Portland?

 

i have semi the same problem. I had a badass mechanic do my timing belt, now sounds like my power steering whines, and it never did it before.

 

Belt might be too tight...putting alot of pressure on the alternator

 

Is it the original 90 amp alt? Or is it an high amp alt you added when you went to your dual bat setup?

A squeak from power load (that's what I call the noise the alt makes when its working extra hard to catch up) is not a bearing noise. Besides, the system eventually does catch up and the "squeak" then goes away.

You described the noise as a "whine", is it the bearing going bad? Big coincidence if it is. Is it a too tight belt putting pressure on the bearing? Easy enough to find out, loosen the belt a tad.

Edit: I see it is the stock alt. I'd be quite surprised if the alt bearing was going bad with only 90K. Loosen the belt and see what happens.

 

Thanks...over-tensioned belt seems like a good possibility, being the primary element changed between before and after, might as well give it a look...
