Hey all.... My 2003 Tacoma failed frame rust inspection in mid October and the dealer ordered a new replacement frame under Toyota warranty. They specified it would take 6 to 8 weeks to recieve the new frame and that they would call me to schedule an appointment to have it replaced.

For those who had their frame replaced, how long did it take before you recieved the call from the dealer to inform you of the new frame and to take the truck in for service?

I've called the dealer a couple of time for status and so far no frame.. I am coming up on 10 weeks waiting now.

I've also noticed the fuel tank shield on my truck is rusting away along with the frame, yet Toyota of America will not cover it under their frame rust warranty. The dealer agrees that the fuel tank shield is in a very bad shape and should be replaced along with the frame, yet they will not cover it under this recall. Has anyone else had to deal with this issue?
The fuel tank shield runs approximately $300 to $350 which is astronomical for what it is. Anyone know of after market dealers where I can buy this part at a cheaper price?

is the gas tank shield at all salvageable? ya may be able to restore it a bit yourself. take it off and clean it off of any rust and spray er down with some rubberized undercoating. that would prolong the life of it for sure. unless its almost ready to fall off or something i would do that before spending 350$ on a new one. if you do decide to replace it check around at some junkyards,ya may find a half decent one for next to nothing.

Didn't take mine. Failed inspection in june 2010, going in this coming monday. They said during one of my many calls that if I didn't feel it was safe to drive they would give me a loaner.

Selling my 96 Tacoma to fund the FJ80 build up.
One of the other post said they (Toyota) were having issues with the double cab prerunner frame alignment.

They took my truck and wouldn't give it back. I drove a suzuki sx4 for 5 or 6 weeks. Total frame swap time I think was 1.5 months.
