I crashed

I was on my way to work in my new taco I had just bought less then two weeks ago. It was not raining but the road was still wet and I came around a corner on a mountain road and spun out. I was driving slower then normal (10 mph under the limit) because of the wet road but obviously not slow enough and the back kicked out I brought it back twice before the truck did a 180 and I Luckily! Ended up in someones from yard instead of the rather deep ditch and accompanying rock wall. The 6 mail box's and large cactus did some significant damage. She's is in the shop now and I HOPE! She’s not totaled. Still wait to hear from the insurance. I was going a little less then 35 when I started to slide. I am most definitely going to keep weight in the bed from now on. Wishing this truck had traction control. Remarkably I am total fine can't even tell it happend.

Whats smashed apart from what I believe to be the stabilizer bar ( sorry im new) under the truck, mechanically its unharmed all the damage is on the drivers door, front quarter panel, etra cab and a few small dents on the bed.

 

that can be buffed out....

It doesn't look terrible but it did manage to damage every single body piece on the driver side. Bumper, fender, door, ext. door, and the bed. Could add up and I'm not sure what that year are going for price wise.
Glad you are ok though! Sorry about the truck.

 

Damn that sucks , especially since ya just got it but as mentioned glad your ok & from what you describe as damage doubt they'll total it....

Thanks for the condolences guys! This brings me to a question I have since I am new to owning a 4x4 how bad should the conditions be for me to put her in 4x4? Would this of happened at all or been easier to control if it was in 4x4?
I know its bad to drive in 4x4 all the time when its not needed but when is it advised?

Dude you live in Cali...how bad could the weather get to warrant 4x4 while driving?

 

I know this sounds random but when traction is unavailable in 2 wd then obliviously 4wd can be used, & I'm betting that it wouldn't have happened in 4wd but then again its not a great idea crusing pavement in 4wd unless its a mixture of snow & maybe light ice..

 

It snows...... sometimes.. a little, I relise I have nothing to complain about when it comes to harsh driving conditions. But I feel like this was my fault and want to do everything I can to insure that it Never! Happens again.

+1 to that. I would just learn to countersteer more and be more easy on the throttle around the corners when it's wet.

 

I know its bad to drive in 4x4 all the time especially on dry pavement but other then tires and gas specifically what will it hurt or damage? the diff? Sorry for showing my newness here.

1. Good thing your ok, i just got out of an accident myself! Not fun
2. Driver side is F!#*ed
3. Go to Kellybluebook.com and search your price for your truck, post it on here also.
4. Go in an talk to your body shop guys and see how much its going to cost, considering no one else caused your accident you pay out of your pocket, therefore, it wont be a totaled or non totaled matter, it will depend on if you would wanna spend the $$ to fix it.

How did you manage to spin out even on wet roads if you were travelling under the limit, is it possible you hit the gas at the wrong time? So long as the door post isn't bent looks like a pretty easy repair.

 

it's apparently easier than you think. ....

i've seen it happen. long curve going down hill ..the ass end just breaks loose with no warning.

put some sand bags in the bed and it will help

 

I've never used 4x4 on wet pavement, I've used it in snow and mud but never felt the need to engage it in rainy weather.

Glad you are ok, I'll bet your truck isn't totaled. Glad you didn't get hurt.
