My old 96 4 cyl auto 4x4 did 2 mpg better with it on. My v6 was 2 mpg worst, but thats checking it in the winter. The winter time really screws with mpgs. I think the trucks run richer from the cold and use more fuel, plus warming up the truck so often doesn't help save fuel

Very much so! I'm trying the ECT button on thing right now to see if it improves things but I went from 20MPG to 18 MPG over the last 6 weeks. And during that time I put fresh plugs in it too when I changed the valve cover gaskets.

Just ran a full tank with the button depressed. Went from 18.2 to 19.7 MPG with no change in driving habits, same commute, same gas station. Got another 40 miles out of a tank. I guess I'll leave that button on from now on. Truck actually seems happier with it on anyhow.

I've been having a major mpg problem recently and it seems it might have stemmed from me turning off this switch. Going to try this test and see what happens

I am you going to fuel up tonight and test this as well. I commute 50 miles per day on nice curvy back roads in western NC. I have logged my last three tanks so I will get a good current comparison.

Next tank was 18.6 with it on. Not so sure this really works. I turned it back off. It seems to kick out of OD way too easy with it off. I really wish this thing was a stick.....

well i've had it on for the last week and i do have to say it works. In normal commute day i usually go through a half a tank but with the button depressed i have a little under quarter tank left. Not the most scientific of methods but shoot it does work. never would have thought about if it wasn't for this thread. The logic behind why would still be nice to know though.

You say "it works," but if you are starting with a full tank, this means you're burning more fuel with the button depressed, yes? Isn't that counter-productive? What part of it is "working"?

If you are not starting with a full tank, well, nevermind.

    Just checked my logs,

Two trips on the same route, two weeks apart, no mods to the truck during that time other than turning ECT on. All highway except for the first and last 10 miles. Filled the tank at the same gas station by my house the night before leaving. Weather, heck, even time of the day was the same.

    201 miles/14.143 gal/14.21mpg - ECT OFF
    202 miles/12.448 gal/16.23mpg - ECT ON

+Like others mentioned, the truck seems happier.

*edit - Also, kind of pissed i get sub-17mpg with only 265/75's :) Maybe it's the full 3/16th skids, sliders, lift, topper, tools, sand bag, and crap i had in truck for the weekend trip...

Could be the weather killing your mileage too. My last tank was 17mpg even on my bone stock truck but it's been brutally cold here this week.

Nothing yet... Bought it with TWO miles on it!!!
Y'all reckon it's got anything to do with the motor having to work a little hard with the ETC off? Meaning when you hear down, sure you have lower RPM, but you also are having to work harder to keep the speed??
    Just a thought....

Did a search and found this thread and read all of it.

    I have a one week old 2016, I4 AC, auto, 6 speed, SR5.
Getting gas for the first time tomorrow morning.
Will have the ECT "ON", for this next tank to see the difference.
I drive 500+ miles a week for work commute. 99% highway.

I agree this I4 seems less powerful than my 2012 I traded for this 2016.
Tomorrow I will see if I can feel the difference.
One week from now I will see if there, is, a difference..... but then again, Just remembered, I start on vacation Friday till 4/19 so this tank won't be a 100% true test.

If you get conflicting replies on a forum about ECT mode, then consult the owners manual and/or a dealership. Facts are more factual than opinions. :D

If you stay in a higher RPM curve between shifts, then mileage will suffer..period. Regardless I didnt buy a prius, I bought a gas guzzling truck and would rather have a better driving experience than saving 3 bucks a week at the pump.

Think of ECT mode as tuning your truck on the fly for free when the mood suits you.

Reviving this thread. Just started engaging ECT the last 2 days and already notice a 2 mpg difference for the better. This is just on one tankful but it's looking favorable.
