My tacoma was off the road for about three months and I went to use it the other day and when I started to drive it, it was spitting and sputtering and it had thrown a CEL for an O2 sensor.

Things I have done to try and solve the problem:
    1. I put methyl hydrate in the gas because I thought there may have been water in the gas but that did not solve the problem
    2. I pulled the O2 sensor which also did not solve the problem
    3. Gas filter was pretty resricted so I replaced that

Also the engine only really spits and sputters when it is under load e.g. When under light throttle under 2000 rpm it does not spit or sputter, but once over 2000 rpm it does. It also S&S under heavy throttle at any rpm. When revved in neutral it revs fine until about 2800-3000 rpm and then it S&S.

Any ideas would be great or if anyone has encountered a similar problem and what they did to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thx

try cleaning the maf sensor and throttle body. also....maybe give the spark plugs adn wires a check......sounds like you may have a cracked plug.

would the cracked wires or MAF sensor explain the truck only S&S when it is under load?

It might be the MAF sensor, I changed mine two times on my 99 Tacoma over 222K miles. It would be hard starting then sputer run at high RPMs or low .
