Just bought my first pickup/first toyota. 02 Tacoma SR5 V6 4x4 TRD 5-Speed Manual with 80,000 mi. Truck seems to run great except this random metal clunking or popping sound that seems to occur for no reason, not necessarily just after hitting a bump, dont think it's a ball joint issue. The noise is definately d/s front end. Also this is my first time driving a stick, but I dont think its anything I'm doing because it doesnt seem to be affected by low/high speed or shifting. It is totally random. Any ideas? Thanks.

Greese your drive shafts and check U-joints.

Your sway bar might be a little loose? I put aftermarket coilovers on my truck, took a shot at removing the sway bar to do it, thought I didn't get anywhere with it, and sure enough after I put everything back together had this odd clunking noise.

Just a thought. Easy to tighten up.

Yeah check the sway bar. My sway bar bolts just kept spinning and spinning so I'm gonna have to grind em off

No mods on it, I will check the u-joints but I'm pretty confident that's not it. I'm def gonna check out that sway bar issue. Thanks for all the advice so far
