What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Definitely! I didn't have a first gen for 9 month and hated it!

 

All the talk of steelies vs alloys got me thinking about it again. I definitely prefer alloys for the on road performance. Lighter weight, generally better looking wheels, better acceleration, better braking. But there's definitely drawbacks if you spend time in the rocks. Steelies are just gonna hold up better. My alloys on my truck now have taken a beating. They're still ok, but I'm thinking they're going to need to be replaced after this coming wheeling season. Fortunately mine have a pretty substantial faux beadlock style ring on them and takes most of the abuse. If they didn't have that ring I'm sure they'd be destroyed already.



As much as I don't want to go with steelies, my next set probably will be steel with either rock rings or full-on beadlocks.

 

Look at 255/70r16 as well. Lots of choices for AT tires. 0.5 inches smaller diameter.

 

my alloys are chipped as fuck, but they're still going.... Though one of them is warped.

I really, really want a set of SCS wheels but after my MT budget I might have to go to steelies

I then clay-barred and waxed with Mother's Cleaner Wax.

 

I just went ahead and went with steelies. With me not knowing 100% sure what kind of off roading I'll be going through in the next few years I figured I'd be better off going this way in the long run.

 

^they're cheap anyways. can't really go wrong.

 

I Like my aluminum rims, but one is cracked .But if i hadn't scored a killer deal on them i would have gone steel

Went and greased up my u-joints today, but think I made an error.
On the #6 ( ) I didn't know I was suppose to only give it a couple squirts, and gave it 15 or so waiting for grease to come out somewhere and it never did. I moved on to the others, and I believe there was another one that did the same thing.

On the other Tacoma forum a guy's reaction made it sound like it'll make the yoke explode. Did I mess something up, or should I be good? Any way to fix?

so i plan on ordering the summit racing rims too, not sure of the 84 or 85 series (D's or O's) but what are benefits to steel wheels? how about cons?
