Ha well they are much deeper than any of the subs I've had before soo..

I wonder if I could trim out the rear speaker panel and put 6x9's in there using the existing mounting holes? Would it even be worth it to ditch the 6.5's?

I have a rockford 4 channel. What would be a decent budget amp to put on the subs?

Haha good point, I'm good, maybe you should consider a move across the Bay though.

what impedance are they? and wattage?

SSL makes great small powerful amps for a really good price. i have run two. Still have their older 4000w mono block driving my subs.

Honestly I don't know much about them, I bought them used. On the back it says 2ohm and dual voice core. It has 4 terminals on the back as well. Know enough to wire everything up but I'm far from an audiophile..

Is there a code on the amp anywhere? Product number? Find it and Google it to get your specs.

4 plugs as you need a + and - for each voice coil..and 2 ohm dual VC? sheesh. thats odd. kinda sucks too..you won't be able to run them in parallel. Create a super low impedance, below 1 ohm i think. Now..there are some amps that will do that low so i guess you could run them in parallel.

running them in series will be the best way. Will create a 2 ohm load on the amp which lots can do. when you run the combined seriese wired subs in parallel...

here..to understand better..wire them like so.

Ill look up the power ratings..

Not a bad idea. I'm looking for info on the subs though, I know the specs on the amp.

    400w RMS 800w Peak.

so with that said. a 1000w RMS @ 2ohm amp would be the minimum id run. But a 800w RMS @ 2 ohm would be fine.

Thanks for the info!! So what's the difference between the way you said to wire them and the way they were wired? Sorry for the noob questions but I wouldn't mind learning some of this

This is how they were wired when I pulled them out, each sub on a different channel.

    Thats straight parallel.

means your putting a 1 ohm load on the amp. Much less resistance thus the amp puts out more power. Sounds good yes? its the desired result yes..BUT the amp itself has to work WAY WAY hard to put out the power. Usually results in the amp not being able to keep up.

But your amp you had may have been able to handle 1 ohm resistance. About 8 years ago, you paid PREMIUM for 1 ohm stable amps. Now its much more common.

It sounds really clean and is pretty loud (considering I'm only using 2 channels on a 400w 4 channel amp), I just want to use the 4 channels for for the doors and put something else on the subs. So for the best quality sound should I wire them how they are or how you mentioned?

to run them off a mono amp, yes.

Best kind of amp would be a type D for the sub. but a nice A/B would do good too.
