What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I want to do this too. Was it difficulty for the swap and did those come with heater elements?

 

Hey Lump who do you usually run with out here im dying to take my new rig out!

 

Nope.... But I didn't follow complicated welding/ grinding instructions I found on different forums to keep the original rails(I'm not a welder)..... Three out of 4 bolt in the same... 1 of those with a little bending.... The 4th has to be drilled out. They don't slide back as far but do lean back more.... I'm 6'2" and they are plenty far enough back for me..... Unless I lend my whip to a 7' person, I don't see it ever being a problem. No electronics in these seats..... Honestly, the biggest bitch was getting the buckle out of my drivers side on the pre-existing bench seat. These sit lower by about 1 1/2" it seems. Fine by me. Well worth the swap. Those bench seats suck.

 

I run with Rocky Mountain 4x4. It's a good group of local guys that have all kinds of rigs, including a 80 series cruiser and a 100 series. I'll PM you a link to our local forum.

 

What kind of mount is that for the tablet? Wouldn't they tend to bounce around do to the weight?

but my e locker doesn't work

 

I don't have one either, but even if I did it wouldn't matter since I'm throwing a tundy axle under my truck pretty soon

 

Thanks for all the input guys! I was under the impression that a Detroit was also fully locked all the time. Will probably go with one when the time comes. Since we're on the topic, pro's and cons to a detroit up front? I have manual hubs so when they are "free" the locker wouldn't effect anything correct?

You could just get a spool if you want it locked all the time. Typically better than a Lincoln locker as it is made for the stress.

I wouldn't recommend a detroit locker up front unless your truck is a true trail queen. Handling will be odd with no control over when it engages or disengages other than by locking the hubs up. There are places where you want an open diff when in 4WD (driving off-camber in sand, ice or snow.) You want a wheel to act as an anchor.

But, yes, when your hubs are unlocked, the locker won't affect anything.

A Detroit in the front will be hell to steer under slick conditions. I have one in the front and rear of a Scout. Great on the trail, death on icy pavement. You'll come to a corner as slow as 25mph, turn the wheel and the truck will continue in a straight line...not cool.
Since I'm doing it over with a new build I will be leaving the front open for now and maybe a selectable locker later if it's needed.

 

Nice. Once again thanks for the info! May just hold off on putting money into this drivetrain. I'm in the process of buying a house with a good sized garage so if I get it I'll get a little car and pick up a 9/44 to dump money into.
