The ruff stuff ones are beefy as hell. I thought I only paid about $60 though. They have a Tacomaworld 10% coupon too.

I went with the trail gear kit too. I liked the fact that the top plate is angle up where the top leaf rides against it. This is the kit. It works with the Tacoma axle as well.

The u bolts are ordered individually. I think the trail gear ones are 9/16" diameter and these are 5/8". And the 1/2" thick top plates are bent up front and rear.

That would take a special kind of effort to get them in backwards as the shackle bolt is a larger diameter...but it wouldn't surprise me if its been done in the past.

I did call Wheelers to verify the left and right springs though.

    Edit:

Here's a pic sitting on level ground. It is still slightly forward but not nearly as bad as it looked in the other pic. Another thing to remember is that with the Dakars, there is still an arch in the spring with plenty of rearward travel in the shackle. As the leaf compresses, the axle will travel up in a rearward arc so there needs to be some additional room for the wheel to fit in the well.

Just a thought but, I wonder if they are from 95-97. Didn't they extend the spring length for 98 - ? How do your shackles look? Are they pushed forward a bit?

Nope. Mine were nearly vertical with a slight rearward lean when installed. They've now settled in more after driving it with a more noticeable rearward rake. The driveshaft angles are also good with no binding or vibrations.

    looks good to me.
The dakars are supposed to push your axle forward a little. You can get an axle relocation plate to move it back or get bigger bump stops if you rub. I never rubbed so i didn't bother with the relocation plate.

I've been thinking about getting a top plate spacer for my coil overs so i can loosen the spring up a little. (seems a tad too stiff..)

I looked at them and it doesn't look like i can replace the top plate bolts with longer bolts. I measured and i have exactly 1/2" of bolt left on top of the nut. What do you guys think if i got a 1/2" spacer and the threads of the bolt were flush with the nut? Other option is just go with 1/4" spacers but id rather go w/ the 1/2" ones if i can.

Heres a picture of the 1/2" of bolt left.

Shouldn't matter. The longer studs would be offset by by the spacer plate. A 1/2" longer stud and a 1/2" spacer plate would put the studs and nuts in the exact same place.

Edit: Just reread and see that you cannot replace the top plate studs. I'd first call the manufacturer since they have to press in the studs somehow. If not possible, I wouldn't go more than 1/4" with those studs.

Flush is fine IMO as long as you have the full nuts thread being used.

Military spec says you are required to have 3-5 full threads beyond the nut. I abide by that whenever possible.
