What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Basically that but flipped over

 

Today I:

Changed the washer fluid pump.
Removed a 6disc CD changer the previous owner installed.
And pulled the cig lighter/12v port that had been burnt out for 10 years (he said).

My wife and I found out we are going to have a second baby in about 7 months so I had to. I only had it on craigslist for 18 hours and it was driving away. I got 8k for it with the check engine light, airbag light, and a cracked wind shield. 120k miles. Scouring every resource to find a replacement vehicle right now lol. I found a 97 4runner that im going to look at tommorow.

ive been eyeing a 4runner down the road from me its been tapped in the front end popped both airbags needs grille bumper lights etc. im gonna try and get it for 500$ my brother bought a 2000 4runner with a cracked exhaust manifold for 300$ a few months ago. deals are out there

 

DAMN! Im trying to save as much of that 8k as I can. I need a roof on my house lol.

 

Today I was bored so I remembered I had weatherstripping laying around and sealed my tailgate handle access plate.





I also measured the rear frame rails to start designing my custom bumper brackets.

What would be the point/ what would you achieve by a bed rack like that, seems like it would just take up bed space and it would effectively do the same thing that the bed is designed to do...

Not nocking it, I think it would look cool but that's about all it would do.

 

That is a sweet looking rig. And the price is reasonable. If is was local to me, I would pick it up. '85 model was the last of the solid front axle models and the first to have fuel injection. Is considered to be the holy grail for 1st gen tr4s.

 

Yeah exactly...that's why I want it. My first vehicle when I was 15 was an '85 runner, I've had a few others since also but wish I still had that first one.

I was looking for a design like that. Big thing is that it creates a two layer storage capability while keeping the spare low and out of the rear view. Yeah, it cuts down on available storage but still adds the capability to stuff larger flat items in the bed.

 

Finally solved the knocking noise from under my truck. It only occurred when turning to the right and occassionally on bumpy straightaways. Turns out that the cab pinch welds were hitting my sliders. Even though there was a 1/8" gap between the pinch weld and sliders, there was enough movement in the body mounts to make contact.

I flattened the pinch welds and the noise went away. I'll eventually replace the body mounts too but this is good enough for now. To say that knocking noise drove me nuts is an understatement.

 

I'm hoping this is what my brutal squeaking sound is all about.
