the sulfur smell is a direct result from the crap the gas companies cut the fuel with to make more out of less.change gas stations for a few fill ups.the same thing happened to me in my blown mustang gt,i stopped using an off brand gas station and went to a brand name gas station and the smell never came back.have the o2 sensors diagnosed to see if they are lazy or not before you spend money on the parts.they can be watched in real time while vehicle is running through the ecm using a scanner.

The rear o2 sensor only looks at how well the converter is doing, it makes no adjustments. You prolly have a bad converter. Normally if its something wrong with the rear o2 it will set a p0136 , p0138 depending on the model. If you have use of a scan tool that shows live data look to see if it has movement or if it pegged rich or lean. It should have some movement rich or lean but not as much as the front o2. Hope this helps

i forget what it was called but on my 96 i had the same problem and i also replaced the 02 sensor and it didnt fix it then when i took it in to the shop for inspection they found a buildup on another sensor under the hood they scraped it off and fixed it instantly i really wish i had more info but that was about 4 years ago maybe this could send you in the right direction good luck

That sucks. P0420 is rarely a symptom. There's a very good chance your cats are toast.

The downstream 02 sensor is your catalyst efficiency sensor. It's only job is to measure catalyst efficiency.

I wouldn't be surprised they have 215xxx on them.. Wouldn't they be emitting a sulfer-y smell?

I had the same code about 3 months ago. I went to get a quote from the dealer and they wanted $2500!!!! I replaced both sensors instead and code went away.
