can U-joints affect braking?

Im having a tough time chasing down a vibration I'm having. Had both rear drums cut, took my front dimpled/slotted rotors off and replaced with OEM ones. Truck still vibrates when it seems all the moving parts warm up. Honestly, feels like its in the driveline(or at least comming from the back of the truck.) It only does it while braking also. Seems sometimes the harder I step on the brake pedal, it vibrates harder(enough to make the back of the truck bounce) When I put the truck in drive, sometimes it gives a "clink" like the famous loose U-joint sound. I grease the driveline every other oil change, so they do have grease in there. Im baffled..This just started maybe over the summer.. Any ideas?

I also know that my center carrier bearing is bad, and needs to be replaced(not humming yet) could that have anythign to do with it?

 

Have you checked you u-joints?

 

Could be a stuck/sticky piston in a rear wheel cylinder. If only one shoe is activating it will cause the rear breaks to act weird.

Usually bad ujoint(s) show up as vibes at 30-35mph and 50-60mph. Could also be worn slip shaft...

Oop's... missed the bad carrier bearing info. Going to be tough making a final determination with that going on.

 

I had a guy I work with put my truck on the lift a couple weeks ago, and he gave them a quick look and said they dont look loose. I havent personally gotten under there and looked at them.

I know whats going to happen..Ill put new u joints in, and a new bearing and it will still do it. thats the way my luck goes.

And also, I dont know if I'm being overly paranoid, but I do believe I feel a slight vibration while accelerating around 20-30 mph

 

Its also got stock leaf springs..I need to borrow one of those go pro cameras to mount under my truck to see WTF is goin on while im moving.

 

could be that its axle wrap or that you springs are sagging and the brake proportioning valve think you have a big load in the rear and in turn makes your rear brakes grab harder and causing the hopping.

 

just checked the u joints, there all good with plenty of greese in them. The only thing I could think of is the carrier bearing is well worn out. Could that effect braking??

 

That could be giving you a vibration.

 

Do you have another set of wheels laying around that you could swap out.... to see if the vibe goes away.

Have you tried rotating your tires? Sometimes a warp in the wheel could cause a vibe (and weirder things have happened to me in the past with other vehicles)

 

Yes I do, but it dosent happen untill braking. Ive had no problems with these all terrains up untill the last 2 months or so..I found a Timkin bearing tonight thats about $120..Ill probably wind up buying it in the next week or so..Hope its not to hard to do these bearings.

 

I'm not necessarily talking about the tires.... I'm referring to the wheels. A bent wheel....??

Bearings could also do it.

 

what is your determination that your CB is bad?

 

When you can move it in almost 2-3" in each direction

Anywho, I found the bearing last night..Its made by Timkin, and its around $120..

yea, theres a bearing inside like a rubber bushing that goes around the 2 piece shaft on the x-cab and D-cab trucks. I got my tax return in today, and going to pay off a credit card tonight, then I guess I'll go pick it up tomorrow and try to install it this weekend.
