Well, after searching "other" forums on the subject, It seems a fair argument can be made for both reasons, as well as here. I can see being in 4lo and 1st gear and using the switch to start the truck in gear to crawl out of a sticky spot(and it will start in gear). It also seems a very rare spot to be in to me. I would get more out of it by using it to start the truck from outside the door myself. It seems a dual function switch at the least. I drive an automatic so I have no trouble either way. Amazing what they will think of next!

Just for the record you CAN start the truck in gear if the Ebrake is not on. Albeit a pretty rough start, it will start without stalling. Tested in a 12 4cly on a very slight incline. I never knew this is what it was for I always assumed it was so you could start the truck without having to get inside and push the clutch in.

I once used my clutch cancel
to start my rig/rolling in first gear multiple times
simple turn of the key 5sp manual does it.
I had to shift clutch less from DownTown San Diego to Oceanside (mostly freeway)
due to a hydraulic failure once.
Stop and go was a bitch I do remember...
    But I got it done.

I've used it off road as well...
tho' no real advantage that I see
so my CC normally is ignored.

I would think a manual trans
would benefit with having more beneficial purposes
then what an auto might offer.

But then... I don't have an auto
