I'm replacing a blown head gasket on my 99 Tacoma 2.7L.

I'm attempting to break loose a camshaft bolt that holds the cam gear to the camshaft. This is the newer head style w/o the distributor. Everything was going smooth until this one bolt. Which direction loosens this bolt (is it reverse thread?), I'm hesitant to apply much more pressure without knowing.

The manual states it should be torqued to 54 ft/lbs, but I'm exceeding the by a fair amount...Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I'm not sure which way it turns....but I would get some PB Blaster liquid (any automotive store) and squirt it with that REAL GOOD.......I works wonders. Let it set for a bit and try again.

Your right about the penetrating oil. Several hours of marinating, a 18v impact gun, and just a few seconds and she popped right off. Turns out it was standard treads, not reverse.

    Thanks,

    Matt
