Keep it or give it back to Toyota?

The title says it all..

statics:

150,500 miles
3.4L v6 with k&N cold air intake
33's
manual 5 speed
9" lift( old 6" trailmaster suspension(lift is basically bottom of the barrell lift) and 3" body lift)
flow master exhaust( possibly need replacement soon)
extremly nice conditon inside and out inculding the motor
babied its entire life

but it may even pass the test cuz the frame was always painted with rust-olemum but once i take it in(if it fails) i can't take it back.

thoughts...

If you take it in, wouldn't they put all your stuff back on it and just replace the frame? Hopefully this isn't a dumb question, I don't know much about how their frame recall works.

Nice truck BTW!

his is a '98. They gave you money for tacomas built prior to 2001. 2001-2004, they replaced the frame.

Is yours still under the recall ?? I took my 2000 in and they said the only recall for my year was a trailer hitch wiring problem

Does that $10,500 include all the aftermarket stuff on it? I now see your dilema... You've got a lot of money in aftermarket stuff and it would be tough to start over again. Visually, how does the frame, flaking or rust holes? I still say take it in, although if it were mine I'd have to think long and hard about it myself... But, ultimately, if the truck is unsafe, all that aftermarket stuff isn't worth it if it causes you to wreck.

i've had real problems with toyota. First they said the recall was only for tundras. Bullshit there aren't even any recalls for them.

Then i read that you have 15 years since the year of the truck. so ya i think i would be in that but then i looked it up online with my vin # and it said there are no recall for my truck.

but then i looked up on there website( officall write up about this frame by back) and it said my vin# is one that could have frame rust so potenially it being bought back

so right down this is how it goes::conf used::bananadea d:

If they do buy the truck back why CAN'T you remove YOUR stuff from it? It's not your fault the truck may fail. Ask them before it goes in for inspection but I would definitely get it looked at; it just might save your life.

I'd call the dealership and ask them what you're allowed to take off/out of the truck if they do decide to keep it. They've got to understand that people put lots of aftermarket stuff on their trucks and yours would be worth more than a plain stock Tacoma built the same year.

i took mine in a few years ago, it was a 99. they said it failed and they would buy it back. they sent me home in the truck after i signed a waiver, they sent a letter a few weeks later with an offer (17k) at the time. i called toyota and made an appointment to trade it in. i took off and sold the tires, rims,AAL, OME coil, tonneau, fenderflairs, stereo, tube steps.... the guy laughed when i brought it back in. i got my check and left the lot with a 2008 TRD sport a few hours later for my check plus 10k cash
