Quick and simple question - do i need the skid plate?

Like the title says, if I am not going to take it off road do I really need the front skid plate? I just changed all my oil, and the front diff was a royal PITA. When I took the front skid plate off I noticed how heavy it is and got to wondering, would not having it on help a little with mpg - less weight on the front? Or does it actually help having it on since it's a little bit aerodynamic. Opinions - keep it off or put it back on?

 

it really doesnt weigh enough to gain a significant amount on mpg, plus like you said it would make your truck less aerodynamic. i just like the peace of mind knowing if anything bounces up underneath the truck its protected.
