vibration after 3in lift

i have a 2004 tacoma sr5 v6 4x4. i just had a 3in toytec suspension lift installed and now my im getting a bad vibration around 50mph and up. the vibration is not completely constant, it fades in and out. it has been aligned, the tires have been rotated, i had the front differential dropkit installed as well. im not sure what to try next any advice would be helpful

I didn't have any trouble with my lift personally.

I have read on this site that a carrier bearing drop helped a few guys.

 

Take the diff drop out and see if the vibes go away.

 

Does it vibrate more when you step on the gas, and less when you ease up on the gas?

Is it present at certain speed ranges?

 

Put it in 4wd and see if it goes away. If it does, a bearing in your front differential is the culprit. Happened to me and a few others.

whats it got in the rear for a lift? try dropping the carrier bearing 1/4''-3/8''(carrier bearing is the part of the driveshaft that is bolted up to a crossmember).

 

I drove it in 4 wheel drive today and it still had the vibration, nothing changed. It starts at 50mph and the vibe stays however fast you drive.
it has spacers in the front. then extended shocks and add a leaf in the rear.

im thinkin of trying to drop the carrier bearing
does anyone know where to get one for a 2004? do they even make them for 1st gen?
all i can find is 2nd gen kits

 

Show us a pic of your cv boots. Usually low speed vibes are taken care of with carrier bearing drops and high speed vibes are taken care of with diff drops. However beefed taco makes some serious carrier bearing drops but they drop it about 2 3/8"

 

Try stacking some washers in there to gain the desired drop then test drive it to see if that fixed it then you can decide to either replace with a more permenant setup or just leave it the way it is.

 

starts at 50 - doesn't matter how fast you drive, not sensitive to when you're on the gas pedal or not

that tends to suggest out-of-balance tires - did you have 'em balanced when rotated? Even still some shops don't get it right the first time.

My secondary guess is driveline vibration, but i'd expect that to be worse or better if you jump on or let off the gas.

Also, what's the frequency of the vibration?? Low (like a shake) at that speed suggests tires. Higher (but still low - like a low hum - like driving next to a big panel truck) suggests driveline.

Good luck. These things are heck to track down. If it's not bad you may end up living with it.

Did you take your truck out in the mud or anything to have some fun after the lift? Maybe theres some dirt or dried up mud on the inner barrel of your wheel. Just a thought.

 

I would definitely look into the CB drop bracket. I had vibes similar to yours. I tried stacking washers but it didnt help much. The CB drop bracket made all the difference. Zero vibrations now. It is an extremely well built unit.

Alright, I took it back to the installer today and he checked the tires, they're fine. the installers came to the conclusion that the cv's might still be at too steep of an angle, creating the vibe, even with the diff drop. I can't lower the front diff anymore because of the crossmember
(posted some pics of cv's previously on this thread, what do yall think?)

And if they are still too steep? is there another front lift or setup besides the spacers that would decrease the angle on the cv's

 

They're right, those things look like they're at a horrible angle. Only option is to either go with a lower lift or add heavier skids and a heavy ass bumper.

 

yeah that may be what i end up having to do, i just hate to have to lower it because i love the way it looks now

i have also did some research on spacers and im thinkin about just swappin them out for new shocks and coils. would this be a good move?

 

You got a pic that shows the upper part of the strut and also a close up of the spring perch. Something isn't right here. That is too much axle angle for 5100s alone.

Is the spring perch installed upside down? Do you have a lift spacer on top of the coil?

 

You would still have about the same lift if not more.

 

yeah i have a 3in spacer on top of the coil and which is apparently too much for the cv's

do you still think something is wrong? or is it just simply the spacers causing this?

i mean i had read numerous places where you could go up to a 3in lift without having angle issues and problems like this
