98 toyota buyback

A guy on craigslist has a 98 ext cab tacoma 4 x 4 with 188k on the clock v6 5 speed. The frame is bad on it and toyota offered him 4200 for it, but hes trying to sell it on craigslist. My question is, if I could get it for like 2500, would toyota buy it back from me, or does it have to be original owner???

 

Yea I thought 4200 was low too, but I talked to the guy a bit and it seems legit. My only thing is, why sell it for less if ya know ya can get 4200 from it. But you said you have to own it for a year?

 

IIRC if you bought one AFTER they announced the issue they would only pay you what you bought it for. To keep people from pulling taco's out of junkyards and ect.
