get HID unless your state is a banner of them

 

Technically, HID's are illegal everywhere unless they are stock or you retrofit projectors into you headlights.

 

Being an electrician, technically this 'may' work. But, I would get a set of HID's before I waste me money on a new wiring harness with slightly thicker wires.

The sad truth is regardless of what HID kit you install in these headlights, you WILL blind on-coming drivers because these housings were not designed to use an HID bulb. I've heard of Tacoma owners upgrading the harness as well as bulbs and having it be loads better than stock.

 

I run Osram 65/70 watt replacement H4 bulbs. Cheap and easy upgrade. They look no brighter than most new cars' headlights and are a big improvement lighting the road. I've never been flashed or received any complaints from others.

 

Don't bother, this is the classic Monster cable scam.
By increasing the wire diameter, you only lessen the resistance. Incandescent and halogen like bulbs are exactly like a small coil. No matter how hard you try, they will only accept a given amount of current. Voltage does not matter in this case. Of course if you increase the voltage too much they will be really bright and then die. The star that shines twice as bright only burns half as long.

 

Thanks for the input guys, was just curious. I have no desire to go HID, and after what has been posted here no desire to upgrade harness/wiring.

This was a wildly popular mod for Jeep Cherokees and made a huge difference in mine. All you are doing is pulling power direct from the battery instead of from the battery to the light switch and back to the lights.
