Hey 1st-geners, i know very little about these trucks, i am a 2nd gen owner. However, i am moving out of the 2nd gen to something more affordable. I would love your opinions on this ebay truck..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyo...ksidZp5197Q2em7QQitemZ230611209793#vi-content

Let me know what you think. One of my concerns would be the fact that it originated from NY and then moved down to PA, and rust issues. I am not so worried about body rust as I am frame. I called the owner and he said the frame was solid, however, theres no pics. Thanks for any input!

First of all, the taco wasn't made untill 1995.5 so this is a pre taco.

Second of all it has the 3.0 V6 which is possibly one of the worst engines Toyota has ever made due to it being severely under powered and blowing head gaskets.

I would keep looking to be honest. If you want a pre taco, look for the 2.4L 22RE 4 cylinder motor.

do you have experience with that motor? Only reason i ask is becasue my bro is a factory toyota tech, he has told me from a design/engineering standpoint, it is extremely solid and very reliable, basically bullitproof, ive never driven one though....

cmack is right about frame rust only being a major issue on actual Tacoma's. Still, I've lived in the NE before, and I would be weary of frame rust on any 20 year old vehicle coming from there. So keep that in mind, OP.

And isn't that 3.0L V6 a SOHC with a history of head gasket issues? I've heard replacement parts are tough to find for it, too.

Edit: steve o beat me to it. Here's a link though: http://www.yotatech.com/f116/why-3vze-so-bad-some-96604/

All toyota trucks have rust problems... I've looked at several older ones ('85 and older, trying to find a good one with a solid axle) they've all had some degree of rust. One in particular was horrible, you could see daylight through most of the frame and bed. It only had 58,000 miles too and was a 1985.
