Recently installed my 5100's and 5-leaf and decided to get it muddy this weekend (Been raining all week...) i may have hit a handful of decent holes - I don't think I recall bottoming out, but might have up front as it was a pretty bumpy ride Stock bump stops with billies at 0, would that have harmed the shock if it did hit the stops or are the billies 'longer' than stock?

Going down the highway it's fine, but around town when i hit small potholes i get a audible thump/thud/clunk from the front end, it may be coming from both sides or the center... Besides the obvious (make sure everything's tight) what should i be looking at up front that could've broken or backed out?

I haven't done a full clean-out yet but i did spray down the susp/brakes/wheels at the self-wash. Any tips on cleaning the engine bay? :D

    Thanks!

That is why I hate the mud and stay away from it for the most part. If you havent done a full clean up than it will be damn near impossible to figure out the problem.
    Step 1. Clean you truck
Step 2. Check to make sure everything is still tight

The two times i had an odd clunk from the front end it was a CV axle seal, one on the driver and one on the passenger. I noticed a clunk when going over bumps on the road. Turns out, there was oil leaking from the diff where the CV goes in. After i replaced the seal, no more clunk.

Check under the front end and see if its leaking any oil.

Thx, will get it all cleaned up and take a look.

I didn't notice any oil under the truck this AM or when i left my folks place yesterday (clean concrete @both)

maybe i lost it all in the mud - borrowing a pressure washer and cleaning up tonight or tomorrow. (cold here until tmrw)

    thanks ppl.

I knocked some dried crud off the lower arms, some off the skid plate.

Going to power wash it tomorrow and drop plates the skid plate etc. in the mean time, since i'm lazy rn, if anyone wants to snap a pic or link me to where exactly i should look? i was looking at what I felt was the CV axel boots and they appeared dry, muddy, but dry.

Yea I don't do mud anymore. It gets into everything and will break shit. Rocks and dirt for me. Mud is a "last resort to save life and limb cause I ain't cleaning that shit up" type situation.

Figuring that out now by looking at my engine bay again! :D

Camera isnt working, but just follow the CV into the diff and if it is leaking, that will be the spot. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Well, spent multiple hours doing a handful of things to the truck today.

    1) Rear dif breather mod
    2) Deck Plate mod
    3) Dropped the skid plates and cleaned them and above them
    4) Removed front wheels and got a better look at susp parts/cleaned them
    5) Looked really closely at my CV Oil seals, could not find evidence of leaks
5.5) Cleaned about a 5 gal pail of dried mud off from the under body.

2 things I noticed and resolved that could have each probably been the cause of the sound.

    1) two screws on the skid plates were loose (full turn+ out) - skids could 'jiggle'. Upon reinstall, everything is snug.
    2) The sway bar end links were about 1/2 turn loose. Tightened those back up.
2.5) cleaned a lot of dried mud/grass from various susp. parts

    The noise is gone.

Like, back to pre-mudding misadventure gone. Everything is snug and tight and doesn't thump/thud/clunk over small holes/seams in the road etc.

    I'm excited. Also tired.

Next up, front and rear diff fluid changes to 75w-90 and greasing zerks! (because it's due.) When i removed the old breather, my diff "gasp'd" so that thing was useless. Also, deck plate mod FTW! Made my exhaust note better, and pepped things up a bit. Pretty sure my stock intake location has some mud caked in it but i didn't have time to pull apart the fender today.

Thanks for all the input, and i'm happy it didn't end up being those seals - read the service instructions and they seem like a long afternoon to do.

    Great news OP!

Mud is a love hate relationship. Its kinda like how I'd imagine fucking Pamela Anderson would be. All fine and dandy and having fun while you're doing it, but at the day thinking about that whole hepatitis thing...and the cleanup

    Glad you're all sorted.
