Well guys I took the Dynomax Super Turbo model #17748 into a shop this morning to be installed on my 2002 Taco and after a bit the guy called me out to tell me I had "the wrong muffler". He got me under the truck to show me what he meant. The stock was a round cannister style with an offset low in and a high out. The 17748 is an ovalish flat with a center in and a right out. So he said I would need the tailpipe re-done in order to install. I left there and came back to look at the posts here and no one else mentioned this issue on their installs.

So i took it to another muffler shop and the guy showed me the same thing and said the 2 options we either a new tailpipe OR a practical vertical mount. I figured it would hang too low in the vertical position but he assured me it wouldn't. Well I told him to go for it and he did it about 30 mins including welding on 2 new hangers. He was right that it didn't hang really any lower than the stock one did. Just wondering if any one else has faced this and whether or not the almost vertical position would affect performance or sound? So far it seems fine but is honestly a little louder than I had assumed/desired.

    Aloha,
    Kona

Having it vertical wont affect sound or flow. If its just a muffler swap, these are the types of things you have to do in order to make it fit sometimes. But if it doesnt hang any lower than the stock can, I wouldnt worry about it.

Thanks. I got under there and checked again and it really isn't much if any lower than the stock muffler was. Going to take some getting used to I think in terms of the sound being a tad louder but I think it seems to help with the acceleration. Could be in my head though.

    Thanks

I thought our trucks used a 2-1/4 exhaust?

I installed the exact same muffler on my truck with no problems.

And I know my hanger is ghetto and retarded looking
