Suspension Help

I know that suspension has been discussed a lot, and I have searched over the threads already but haven't found my answer yet. I have an 03 Double cab 4x4 that is in desperate need of new suspension. Currently, I am running completely stock with 285/75/16 tires. I am happy with the height of the truck, and would like to keep it within an inch of that if possible. I went to my local 4 wheel parts dealer and they said to get the fox coilovers without the res with a new UCA for the front, and just some new shocks in the back. The other shop said to stay away from Fox and get the Dirt Logic coilovers with the res and new UCAs. He said either way I go my front end is going to stick up slightly higher than the back, which is not the look i am going for. I do off road a lot, and would love a better suspension, but so far, I haven;t tackled anything I would need a lift for. If anyone has any suggestions as to which way to go, and what would be the best set up without getting too much added height, I would greatly appreciate the help.

 

how many miles is on your suspension? do you just want to replace old parts? other wise id say go with 5100s front and rear and maybe look into an oem replacement pack if your rear is sagging pretty bad

but for the most bang for your buck id pick up 5100s from DSM bilstein is raising prices apparently pretty soon and you should jump on them before they jump up 50 per shock or whatever dsm said they would be

 

also if your interested ive got alot of 03 parts im selling and i do have bilstein 5125s that i dont need anymore

 

the real question is how much money you have to work with

 

My front end is what needs the most work. My tires are cupping. I haven't had my suspension replaced in over 100k miles (it's not my only vehicle). Well I was quoted $2600 installed for the entire front end work with the Fox coilovers. I was kinda shocked, but I really would like to put some good suspension on it, so I am willing to spend the money. The guy that wanted me to get the Fabtech Dirt Logic quoted me $1500 installed, but then said I would need to spend an additional $600 each for the UCA and that still doesn't fix the rear.

BFA - the 5125's that you have, they are in good shape? And is it the front 2 or all 4? How much are you looking to get? Thanks

 

Well you could buy the parts you need and join us at the july mod day, id get some light racing UCA's and if you want a real nice ride get some coilovers and have them adjusted to stock height and you can always raise them up if you decide you want some lift later on.

The 5125s are in good shape and ill let them go at a decent price they have roughly 10k on them

 

Wow thats a super steep price. I got a '03 also I went with the toytec Ulitimate Lift Kit cost $1100 w/shipping to hawaii, It uses the bilstien shocks, new coilovers and comes with a rear lift I went with a Add-a-leaf. It kicks ass I went from a spacer lift which sucked balls to the toytec and have no complaints.

If ur rolling 285's stock.....don't the tires rub like crazy?

 

Are they for the front or the rear? Right now my main concern is the front so I can save my tires

 

I just got them put on. I was running with 265's and when I went to get new tires I decided to see if they would fit and they do. I did have to cut the wheel wells, but they fit great and there is minimal rubbing still because I need to do a bit more trimming. Not as bad as people think.

 

I got about 2.5" lift and 4" bs wheels. I didn't rub on road but offroad....another story. Do the pinch weld mod too, it will help.

 

They are for the rears, I'm just throwing it out there.. how bad is your front suspension? Maybe I could take a look at it and see how bad it really is

 

Well i replaced my tires about 3 months ago, and they are cupped really bad on the inside. The guy at the shop recommends I change them as soon as I can. Everyone has told me that cupping is caused by bad suspension.

 

I say you go with 5100's or a full OME lift you can buy all of it for less then 1000 bucks shipped to your door. And like BFA said go too a mod day and install your lift. shops want way too much money to install lifts and they try and push the lifts that they supply and not give you many options.

 

What's the backspacing on your wheels because that's a pretty big tire for a stock 1st Gen.

You might want to consider the possibility that your 285/75R16 tires are cupping, not because of bad suspension, but because they're rubbing on your wheelwells when you turn.

Just sayin'...

 

I would do this^^^ Buy all the parts you need then go this July mod day to get your CO's, UCA's, and rear suspension done. That way you save a bunch of money on the install.

 

Wouldn't that mean that both sides of the tire would be cupped (inside and out)? Only the inside of both of mine are cupped.Sorry I don't know too much about this topic...but I am definitely going to make sure. I had two shops tell me I need suspension, and I have already trimmed my wheel wells. I have a lot to learn still, but I know either way it is time for some new suspension.
