I like the Hilux. I was given one to drive when I worked in the Equatorial Guinea in west Africa and I was impressed. It was a nice brand new one and had a great feel to it. I like the way the Tacoma looks more though...but the Hilux is pretty awesome!

If I had a Hilux I'd have to mount a machine gun in the bed.

I would just like to order the engine and swap mine out. I bet it has more to do with the fact that they get better MPG than gas it would look bad for all the other small trucks on the road.

Anyone have real input on the MPG on the diesel hilux?

I really don't get it though, how is that Audi and VW have diesel SUV's with all wheel drive. They get way better millage than the gas counter parts do. And power/vehicle weight can not be the issue, my wife's Audi Q7 weighs more than my taco and has a towing capacity of 6,600 lbs.

Mod day idea....find a wrecked diesel and try to convert a Tacoma...just to say it was done.

What exactly makes a diesel clean? Yes, I'm being a smart ass but its not directed towards you or anyone else on the forum(maybe a few :D)

The taco was designed to be smoother riding and have better MPG and nicer interior then a Hilux for the Americans and Canadians who drive pick up's everyday like computer cars. so they will never sell it here, that being said I would buy a diesel one here is they sold um form my understanding it's rated to carrie and pull more then a tundra can I really like them!

PS a Hilux is the only vehicle to ever drive to the north pole..... yeah they are rugged.

I'm no master mechanic, but I know there has got to some one on here that is. I would like to know if a conversion is even possible. Considering you were able to get a hold of the powertrain. Like that of a volkswagen touareg or Audi Q7/Q5 or the like.

there would be extensive modification to the motor mounts, trying to fit the intercooler, possibly modifying the firewall, probably new fuel pump, possibly more than that
