Expanded metal in valance anyone ever done this?

i am thinking about cutting the middle piece of plastic out of the hole in the valance and replacing it with some type of expanded metal has anyone ever done this?

yes i made a piece and tried it. liked how it looked but it killed the light output on my lights in the bumper. holes were too small
