I have a funky noise coming from the front of my 01 tacoma 4x4 crew cab. I was thinking maybe its my bearings but is there a way i can check them before replacing them?

Jack up the front of your truck. Does the wheel have a lot of play in it?

Grab wheel on the top & bottom while it is on a jackstand & see if it has any play.....top to bottom...not side to side. Bearings can "howl" and sound like a knobby tire rolling down the road.....the pitch of the noise can change when you swerve the vehicle from side to side around 40 mph or more & the overall noise level will increase with vehicle speed.
