cv boot issue

So, im attempting to rebuild the cv's, totally regretting it and never again. But for the time ive spent im atleast trying to finish now.

anyways,



In the above picture black is the rubber boot, red is the metal/cup, and blue is air.

On my original axles (which are shitty rebuilts from who knows where), the boot has three dips to form a nice seal around the cup.

On the new one i bought (lost the needles for one of the cv's, so i had to buy one new), the cup is still that weird shape, but has a metal flange and round, and so is the rubber boot.

Well on the one im rebuilding, its that weird triangle to fit the rollers, but the replacement boot is round, and therefore leaves that gap. said gap will probably come back to haunt me flinging grease huh?

Whats everyone's thoughts? should i bite it and go buy new? should i maybe just silicon the gap and squeeze it down, so frustrated. today is day three of fighting with this shit.

 

Just go buy a new axle. No one rebuilds them anymore, its way to much of a PITA.

 

yes it is! i have a 3" lift and dunno how long these duracrap boots will last. i wish i had the oem cv's. but thats another 80 bucks

 

lifetime warranty on the autozone offerings. ..i think i bought DPG brand. ..much easier than trying to rebuild.

 

The only one autozone has is the duralast, which is lifetime warranty. BUT it is like the one im replacing upon closer inspection. either way FML. called a welder buddy with a shop, hes gonna press my ball joints in. screw doin those yerself. the spindle isnt squared so its a PITA.
