Stock suspension with a cap on bed

Hey guys, looking for input... Just got my truck a few weeks ago, '03 TRD 4x4 DC.... Maybe it's just me, but at times when I look at it, seems like it sits a little lower in the back than front.

I'm not ready for any major purchases yet, so question is, should I get an AAL, or a 1" block to bring the back up ?

If it makes the back just slightly higher, I'm fine with that, I like that look better than a low backend.

I'll take some pics later on if need be. I'd like some input before I just go and do something like this.

I'd go with an AAL over a block.

AAL on the rear. blocks stinks like nasty flowers

3" for me will be spindle lift and AAL rear

 

Interesting yours sags in the rear. Most tacos I've seen the front sags lower than the rear. Probalby due to your shell.

I'd go with shackles or AAL. Custom leaf pack would be "ideal", but also expensive...

 

I wouldn't go with lift shackles on an OEM leaf pack. That would just the leaf pack out even faster.

It puts more stress on the rear half of the leaf.

Wheelers AAL is 77 bucks man. Can't beat that and will help your saggin rear a bit for a while.

New packs will be needed eventually tho im sure.



I like the rear higher then the front. How mine is. Sits almost level with a trailer on it. But its still a bit higher then the front. Good for me as i plan on weighing the back down

 

What he said. Longer shackles put more stress on the leaf pack and wear them out quicker. They allow the leaf pack to flex better, but wear out quicker.

 

Which im okay with i have 1.5'' shackles with wheelers "6pack" leafs. Ill just get Expos next

What about sagging springs? I've got some slightly frowny springs, but don't want a stiffer ride (hesitant of AALs) and blocks suck, so am I pretty much looking at a new leaf pack?

Wheelers makes some great leaf packs. Look at Alcan and Dever packs too...i think thats how you spell them..You wont want Expos lol

 

I'd go Alcan, or go home... Currently, I'm going home...

too spendy right now. The sag isn't that bad, hell the front still rides lower! I'm going to level it out with some 5100's, but probably not until next month. Need to replace my control arm bushings and ball joint, first.

 

my dad has a leer cap on his 02, and it sits pretty damn level..I think your just seeing things, lol

 

yea im running a wheelers 5pk with a wheelers AAL and 1.5'' shackles. Love it

 

My 02 DC with shell squats pretty bad in the rear. If I could, I would do an AAL, but I think my springs are too far gone for that so I may be adding a whole new pack. Still gotta get an opinion from people on here whether my stock springs are shot or not.

 

Stock leaf packs are weak and prone to going flat/inverted. The best, but most costly, solution is a new leaf pack. AALs work but, in many cases, simply delay the inevitible replacement.

Like MTgirl, Blackdawg, and many other TW members, I'm very happy with my Wheelers Alcan 5-leaf pack. Highly recommended.

Like someone else said they had, my cap is a LEER. I need to take some pics on level ground and post them up. Like I said, it might be sagging ever so slight, sometimes it looks completely level, other times it looks low.

I do know, when I threw my jetski on the back, which only has a tongue weight of about 50lbs or so, the back dropped probably over an inch, I was really not happy with that. Like many, I have grand plans to do a lift, but it's not in the budget right now and I have no idea when I'll be ready for that. $100 or less for an AAL I could dig up without a problem though.

Put the truck on level ground, then measure the distance from the bottom/rear edge of the rear door, then compare that to the measuring the front/bottom edge of the front door. I wouldn't measure the fender wells, those are different shapes. Bumpers are different heights too.

This would give (IMO) the best idea of how much you're sagging.
