I posted this at the bottom of another thread but didn't get any responses. Figured I'd try starting my own.

Was offered $15,200 for my 2010 regular cab 4x4 4-banger with 21k miles and a dented rear bumper, and wanting to buy a 2000 3.4 trd xtra-cab prerunner with 108,000 for 10,000. Deal or no-deal?

no way. youll be saving 5k for a downgrade IMO, from a good 4cyl with goo dgas mileage to a 3.4 that isnt great on gas, from 4x4 to a prerunner, not to mention a new truck to one with over 100k miles

Thanks for the replies. My main issue is space. I need something with a little bigger cab. Wanted to stay in the Tacoma family though. Any suggestions?

Unless you just have to have that space right now... be patient. Keep looking for a low-mile XC gen1 or (early) gen2 AC. They are out there. I just recently bought my 03 XC, 4x4, I4, 5spd with 39k miles for $15,500. I was actually waiting for the 2012s to come out but in the meantime decided to keep an eye out on the used gen1 market (I really like the true "compact truck" nature of the gen1s)... but I set myself a parameter that anything I would buy had to have approx 50k miles or less on it. If it had much more than that I passed even looking at it. Well, as luck would have it I found one (so they are out there)... but it did take me several months to find one. But as I said... I wasn't in a rush because I was waiting on the 2012s anyway.

    Good luck....

Depending on how well cared for and how unabused this 2000 is, 100,000 miles is NOTHING to these trucks. You know they are good for several hundred thousand miles because, especially in those years, Toyota was very strict-standard and overbuilt these drivetrains to high tolerances. Literally the only weaknesses were thin sheetmetal and thin paint. I say the 2000 deserves a deep inspection.
