Are you hitting the breaks hard or just under normal use? Also does it happen all the time? Does your brake pedal feel like it is pushing back up, if so your abs is acting up.

There you go change your hanger bearing.

Is the carrier bearing going to have a little bit of play or is that not right or could it be axle wrap?

    getting there....
axle wrap....guaranteed. either get new leaf springs, or get a cheap set of helper springs........that will take care of the problem. something you can do to lessen it though..............take the 4 bolts out that hold the drive shaft slide yoke to the rear diff......clean out all the old grease and any corrosion(i sanded mine down to get rid of the rust) and put some antiseize on it, slide and bolt back together and then regrease it. next, i installed new leaf springs, and now i have zero axle wrap.

Automatic transmission, right? Does it happen immediately when you hit the brakes, or only just before you physically stop? If it is the latter, I agree with Tacomaman06, 99.99% chance it is axle wrap. When I added the AAL, it went away.

Regarding the axle wrap problem: I have re-greased my driveshaft splines (especially the rear ones) and the problem went away, but came back after a month or so. I have been hesitant to beef up the leaf springs because I have a smooth ride. I am wondering: has anyone fixed the axle wrap problem with beefier leaf springs without compromising the smooth ride?

I like the ride I have, by just adding the 4 pack AAL, plus I can load up the bed now. The ride is fine (it's a truck). I still have a ever so slight lurch or thunk (as it has been called on the boards) every once in a while. I heard a one piece driveshaft has helped some too...I think that's worth considering also?

i added wheelers 5 pack rear leafs....1.5 inches of rear lift, and the ride is smooth as silk man, but firm at the same time, if that makes any sense.
