Tranny Shift Rod lever moves with any road imperfection ?

Hi
Today I noticed the shift rod lever moves almost 1/2" when the road is uneven or if I hit the gas a bit too much.
Is that normal? First thing I thought was the tranny mounts are shot and truthfully I haven't checked so I don't know but has any of you noticed that?

Or is it possible the engine mounts and/or read diff is a bit loose?

Any thoughts?

Note: Truck is double cab, TRD 4x4 with Auto tranny.

this has been a concern on taco forums since 2001....

not sure about 1/2" of movement, but our trucks have this type of floating tranny... supposedly the lack of a rigid tranny keeps em from the effects of stress, yada yada yada...

although, still check your mounts just to be safe...

i once felt my steering being sloppy and clicking...

thought it was alignment.. turned out my steering rack was loose so i tightened the bolts and problem solved...

so for sure check your motor mounts and tranny mounts...

 

Yeah mine does the same when I accelerate and whatnot!

maybe I should check my bolts too...

 

Check your blinker fluid.

Low levels of blinker fluid cause a starvation resulting in uneven pressure when the fluid shifts to one side from a road imperfection.

 

Hey don't forget to pick up 2 quarts elbow grease while your at it.

 

Transmissions are mounted to the truck with rubber mounts as opposed to a solid mount. It allows the trans. to move around causing less stress, so said.

Update:
I noticed that if I engage the 4x4 mode (push button) the play in the rod is significantly less. Anyone else has noticed that?
