Hey all. Toyota is buying back my truck because of frame rot. I have a lot of good parts on the car that I can get money for. Can I take these off and replace them with originals between now and when I get my check. Not trying to be shady but if it's just going into the scrap heap, why not.

1998 xtracab, 4x4 2.7 manual. From reading the WTB, it seems like a pretty desireable combination. Love the car and hate to part with it but gotta get it off the road:(

I could have sworn there was a sticky on the subject. I don't see it anymore. Was it taken down?

Once they decide it is unsafe they usually won't let you take it back off the lot or let you take anything off of it. Strip it before you take it there of what you want. If you already left it with them you might be screwed.

They inspected and let me take it and drive it. They also did not have a truck for a loaner and I need a truck for work

I drove mine for almost a month before the buy-back actually happened. I took out all that I put into it (cd player, speakers, floor liners, mud flaps, cap, etc)

I read on here that the truck has to have all its mechanical parts, sooo
I asked the "buy-back" guy about removing the custom cat-back I had just put on, he said that if I drove up to the exchange w/o an exhaust he would know something was missing and reject the truck, BUT if I got there before him and turned the truck off, he wasn't gonna start it and by the time they moved the truck again my check would have already been cashed.

    I took his advice :D

My truck is not modded at all, bone stock but I just put on brand new tires a couple of months back and a friend can use them on his PU. I'd like to give them to him if they're gonna go in the scrapper.

    I love it:

"We've inspected your vehicle and we think it's too unsafe to drive, so we are buying it back. Here are the keys, come back next week."

It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
It just has to mechanically drive.

Just take shit off you don't need to drive.

If it's 4wd..drop the case out of that bitch and rig up a spacer to drive it lol ;)
    Take the half shafts out..

I'd do that..if they wouldn't accept it..I'd make em accept it.

Honestly, I'm so busy with work, it wouldn't pay for me to take time off to do it. Gonna ask my friend if he wants the tires and call it a day. This has all happened so fast, I really haven't had time to think. I read on the forum how happy people were for their truck to fail but honestly, whatever they give me won't put me in the same quality of truck I'm in now. Maybe when people were getting like 15k for these things but not what I see myself getting

Thats what I thought too but it was'nt worth my time. If they didn't give me my car back while all this goes thru, you bet your ass I'd demand and get a truck.
