    Hello everyone,
New to the board and just had a few quick questions for you experts. Just recently turned over 200,000 on my 2001 Tacoma. My radiator just started leaking and I was wondering if you guys thought that while I had it out if I should replace the AC Compressor, Water pump, alternator, and belt tensor? None of these items seem to be failing but I am just worried that there life expectancy is almost up. Also my original exhaust has just finally got a hole in it. When I am replacing it, should I replace both Cats? Do you think they will be plugged up from the miles? Thanks for all of your help !!!!

I mean, I'm not a mechanic, but I feel like spending all that extra money while those parts are still good might just be a waste, I don't change my oil pan every oil change I do just because the trucks already set up on a life, ya know?

It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
If 3.4L, I'd change timing belt, waterpump, plugs, wires, air filter..etc.

    Alternator..should be fine.
    Tensioner..no point..it's fine
Compressor is fine..I wouldn't change it till the bearings seize up in..which doubt it will.

Cat's could be plugged, look at them when you cut old exhaust off.
If not, then leave em if the truck still passes smog.

Don't fix nothing that isn't broken (unless it's preventive to prevent other problems arising...I.E. broken shock, causing worn leaf springs because no dampening)

UndefinedTaco It has the 2.7L. Would you do everything but the belt then since it has a chain?

I got this little manual saying a/c compressor should be replaced at 100k. My 2001 d/c air is getting less pressure, not less cold but just less force so i'm thinking that the compressor is messed up.

I'd change all fluids, plugs, wires, air filter
Clean MAF sensor, clean throttle body, replace fuel filter.
Read FSM on how to if your unsure.

and drive it if it's the 2.7L.

^^^^^this.... if its not broke don't waste your money on it. I've got 203,000 on mine and it runs like it did the day I bought it.

    +1

especially cleaning the Throttle body. At 174K my throttle body was disgusting...And do it right and take the throttle body off the truck to clean it. You will get it much cleaner that way.

After doing a few other things and cleaning the TB I gained 3MPG's

Yeah mine was nasty as he'll at 200000. Used a toothbrush with carb cleaner to scrub it. Be careful with the gasket on the throttle body. I broke mine and had to rvt it to drive it. Lol started at 11 p.m. on a Saturday and had to make a call to chris4x4.
