Deckplate = Worse MPG?

I have read on a few other places that the deckplate mod will lower your MPG. They said that the truck intakes hotter air, which lowers the MPG.

Thoughts on what was said above?

Also any other input of the positives and negatives of the deckplate will be appreciated.

 

Not for me. After my new exhaust and deckplate i gained about 1.5mpg

 

i have heard eveyone gains from it cause the air from outside gets forced into it

 

It actually causes mine to have cold start issues and my mpg tends to suck when its out. Mines a V6.

 

I noticed a decrease in mileage by about 1.5. But I did have a pretty nasty air filter. I changed that and I'm testing it with and without the deckplate now....

 

That kinka flies in tha face of the supposed advantages of cold air intakes doesn't it?

I've not been able to see a difference between having the plate off or on. I monitor my fuel mileage pretty closely with my scangauge.

 

havent tested a full tank yet so ican get a true reading, but i did however notice a power difference, so if i lose maybe 1 mpg, IMO, its worth it. but i doubt i will

 

OP, if you already did the deckplate mod and don't like the mod affecting you mpg leave the cover on. otherwise, if you like the little power gain then it is worth that mpg drop.

 

No, not really. Higher density means more fuel and more power. People install a CAI for power, not for fuel economy.

 

IMO, messing with the intake on your truck will degrease MPG's. Its designed from the factory to be efficient. Save maybe the elbow mod.

I put on a CAI, and lost about 2mpg w/ little to no improvement in power. I put the stock intake back on..

 

It flies in the face of the incorrect assumption that a cold air intake makes better mpg. People that are looking for max mpg create warm air intakes off of the exhaust.

 

Some CAI manufacturers (and their retailers) do make a clam of higher MPGs.

i've been running the deckplate mod and an AFE pro-dry air filter for about a year now and still get 19-20mpg on the freeway. same as what i got before the mods. no difference in mpg for me, but i do like the sound

 

The most restrictive part of the stock air intake system is the throttle plate at anything less than wide open throttle. At part throttle a restricted air intake has zero effect, it's still less restricting than the throttle plate that is intentionally holding the engine back from uncontrolled acceleration.
