Failed Safety Inspection

    Lifted, N-Fab steps, Roof rack light bar, Grill guard, Volant Snorkel (not installed ye)
    Sad, failed safety inspection...
    -Headlights are blue
    -Rear Brakes soaked in Oil
    -Rear Axle seal is leaking

    Advise: Parking brake, works but could work better...

    How bad is a rear axle seal to replace?

    I paid someone to do mine

    That's not to say you cant do it...but it was far easier for me to drop some money and have my truck back in 3 days


    I chose that route though because my seals blew out and i almost killed my entire axle

    LEER Shell with dome lights operated with 3 way switches, aux backup lights with relay and 3 position switch, modified wiring to compass/temp display and clock to include switch that disables dimming function (poor man's DRL solution), Scan Gauge 2
    Not too bad, but you do need a press.

    Pull wheels, pull brake shoes and cylinders, four nuts on back side of brake backing plate, pull entire backing plate/bearing/axle shaft as one piece, take over to press, remove one snap ring and press apart, press back together, install snap ring and reverse process to reassemble, bleed the brakes when done, top off the axle oil.

    There are two seals. The outer seal is changed using the above process. The inner is simply pulled out of the axle tube while you have the axle shaft out and replaced by hammering in the new one like you would if you were packing front wheel bearings.
