I would look into the yakima towers. They work great, are super easy to install, and you can remove them if you want to. This past summer I regularly loaded up two 35 pound kayaks to go play around in. I also hauled around my 10 foot long, 65 pound cataraft. And all of these trips were on the highway going 65+ for around 300 miles round trip. I don't think they look too bad, either.

I'm pretty sure that is factored into the weight rating... Also, you should primarily strap your canoe to the bumpers if possible, that puts the majority of the strain on them... I have a 120 lb. canoe that I'll be putting on my rack, hopefully it will hold it okay... Does a camper shell rack count for this thread?

I installed it myself. It was easy, although I did not like the idea of drilling through my roof. It installed with sheet metal screws, not anchor bolts, so I don't know about wind resistance and uplift forces. Also, since the roof is not reinforced under the mounting points, I would be concerned about denting the roof if it is loaded too heavy.
I only got it for looks and will never really load anything on it, so it works for me.

Ahhh, yeah, I'd be a little concerned too if it's just installed with sheet metal screws...

I've heard you can still get them form the dealer but it has to be pieced together as in buying replacement parts for one. It gets very expensive.

I called my local dealer and they said they couldn't find anything on them. Does anyone know the part numbers? Or does any one have one for sale?

I hate to revive a thread from 2011 buttttt in the market currently to buy a roof top tent.
No I'm not gonna buy a camper shell just to put the rtt on top. Don't know much about roof racks so my question is who and what is the best roof rack I can get to put above the cab to hold up the rtt?
I think I've seen some 1st gens on here that have an rtt resting on top of the cab and not a shell.

Yakima Q-towers and cross bars. Works great so far. I've only had the tent on for a week and slept in it twice. Seems to be fine. I don't really like the weight that high but for now it works for me.

Looks good man, that's the look I was going for. You pretty confident with the weight there?
Know where I can get the rack from?

Yeah I think the weight is fine on the. Each bar is rated at 150lbs I believe. And that's rated at highway speed, not while parked. I'd just Like to get the weight lower while wheeling. It's a bit tippy feeling but I can deal with it.

REI sells them. Or cabelas, bass pro, or any bicycle or kayak shop would sell them.

And you said you've slept in it up there? Just worried about it holding up with someone in it don't want to dent the roof or anything. I'll take your word for it though
