Erasing the codes same as resetting the computer??

I occasionally get a P-0351 code after a long cranking start, probably a bad coil. So erase the code and off I go.

Does erasing the code do the same as disconnecting the battery terminal to reset the computer?

Reason why I ask, I still get horrible gas mileage after erasing the codes. Then some weeks I get just fine gas mileage.
