Truck started, reached to put in gear, stalled. Started sounded like it was grinding, replace started. New starter will not turn motor. I can reverse the crank pulley with a socket and bar to a certain point and then it will stop. Try starting engine after and it wil turn over like it wants to start but hits a certain point and stops. At this point I can not rotate the engine forward with the socket and bar on the crank pulley but I can reverse it and it will do the same thing again. Starter engages but will not rotate engine beyond a certain point.

I don't believe so. I can rotate the crank pulley back and forth one to one a quarter full turns. But both ways it hits a definite stopping point.
