Wheel Spacer Opinions?

If i got 2 inch wheel spacers how would that effect my tacoma? Would there be any reason that my wheels would fall off or my wheel bearings go out? What are the precautions. I just want to know.

why do you want to go with 2'' wheel spacers? Thats a lot, and seems unnecessary.

The only problem you could run into with wheel spacers is prematurely wearing out your wheel bearings.

2" is a bit much. You may get some unwanted rubbing on the fenders with that much. As long as they're installed properly, there's not much to really worry about. I'd go with the spidertrax 1.25" as mentioned above.

 

I have 1.5'' Allpros. More then enough and work great! Be sure to get ET lugs too, especially for the front!

 

I am currently running the spidertrax wheel spaces with no issues. I used to have a f-150 that I ran a set of 2" spacers on that I got off eBay. They worked great, and I really don't see the difference in a 2" wheel spacer and a wheel with 2" less backspacing so it really depends on the wheel setup as well as the spacer. If you already have them, put em on there!! Nothing like seeing it with your own eyes!!! Just be sure to loctite the inner studs, and torque everything to spec.

 

Just reread your post, you have not bought any yet.....ok I would recommend the spidertrax. They also sell 1.5" spacers but are not for the hub eccentric wheels. You could go with them if your wheels take the acorn style lug nuts. Otherwise the 1.25 is plenty.

 

wheel spacers or more backspacing on your wheels is going to wear out your wheel bearings alot faster because your putting more leverage farther out. its like if you hold a metal pole with one hand in the middle (which is stock) and holding it on the outside (which is like with wheel spacers ect.) and it just puts more stress on it. my only advice is not to buy the cheap ones, dont over kill it and torque everything to spec. im actually planning on getting 1.25" ones soon

I run these very hard and have had zero problems.

 

I run ebay spacers offroad and have no issues. Why do you need 2 inches? It seems excessive. The wider track width will add more stress to your wheel bearings but nothing too terrible. Just make sure to use loctite and check your nuts.

 

I have 1.5" on my rear axle to even things out from the extra width added by the spindles. They put more stress on wheel bearings and axle shafts (at least in the rear) but our trucks (especially in the rear) are light enough that it shouldn't make much of a difference. At least that was the consensus myself and my old shop teacher (a BMW master tech and avid 'yota 4X4 fan) came to.

 

scrub radius is affected. ..but i don't think it matters that much in a lifted truck.

 

I am thinking about getting the 2 inch ones for my truck as well. I want to fill the width of my baja fenders (at least until I can save enough to long travel my truck).I am curious to know how well they work for you

 

Every Ford dually on the road uses a cast iron 4" wheel spacer from the factory. Wheel spacers are not a new thing, they can be very safe and economical as long as they are installed correctly. I don't think a 2" spacer would give any more trouble than a 10" wide wheel would.

 

Would 2" spacers rub with stock 2nd gen sr5 rims? I don't see how bearing failure is relevant considering larger tires and rim back spacing would have the same effect.. I would prefer a wider track to counter roll caused by full lumber rack, and side rail tool boxes.

Also 2" spacers aren't going to make it suddenly feel more stable. So if that's your reason for running them I wouldn't bother. even more so if it's on 2nd gen wheels and they won't poke out much to begin with even with 2" spacers.

 

I'm running 1.25 rear and 1.5 front 1.5 lift. Wheels line up perfect with a rare rub if turned hard and hit a bump. Inside back fender plastic. (example: turning off street with steep curb entry)

They are lug centric and hub centric.

 

Am i wrong in thinking wheel spacers really wont affect body roll at all as it doesn't actually change system geometry of the ifs? Soo the body weight will have same affect over the suspension regardless if the wheels are out farther (this will help with preventing rollovers/stability)

 

Yes.

It will change it a bit but not enough for you to notice.

If you want wider for more stability then get a long travel kit. Though again that seems like a silly reason to get long travel.
