    anybody know the torque specs on the valve covers...installing new gaskets today and need the torque specs (if any) it cant be much the gaskets are rubber and i know over torque them will deform the gasket.

    they arent large bolts like what 6 mm or 8 mm bolts? id say probly 14 ftpds. just make them snug and all it good, thinkin too hard about it bud

    This. 15-20 is probably fine. Watch the gasket, and stop torquing when it just first begins to pooch a tiny bit. That means you've got good pressure on it, but aren't squashin' it so much you open gaps.

    I think its 12-15 ft pounds...but when i did mine I didn't have a torque wrench that went that low.

    I did finger tight plus 1/4 turn. Then re-snugged them a week later. No problems so far.


    I did the valve cover gasket a few years ago and overtightened the bolts, so the gasket leaked.

    You can use a torque wrench that has in./lbs readings. 1 lbs./ft = 12 in./lbs. Many 3/8 torque wrenches are avilible in inch pounds, as are most all 1/4" drive torque wrenches.
