What did you not like about it? I want the 18" mag. I was also looking at the dynomax super turbo but I can't find enough sound clips for me to get a good feel for it. What size was ur magnaflow

    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
Been a few months since my last post in this thread...got an update:

Went to my muffler dude today!

    Went from this:
    18" Magnaflow with tailpipe
    CameraZOOM-20120724104130372-picsay_3afe89ab3878cba2e21dd89b34698333421920ce.jpg

    ...to this:
    slim 14" Magnaflow(2.5" in/out) with a 3" custom downturn:

    CameraZOOM-20120724121054556-picsay_578dd738d13a01b2157ec9049aa95cf230d02065.jpg

I have headers so it sounds SUPER deep and throaty. Lost a lot of the tailpipe raspiness, but gained more of a louder deep tone. Slight drone, but not ear-shredding at all. I think the headers definitely take the annoyance out of the usual buzzy rasp you get when splicing in a downturn setup on Tacomas.

Here's a quick video I was able to shoot of the new exhaust setup:

    http://youtu.be/H1YMvk5q9_c?hd=1

It's always hard to guage real-life sound on videos because there is no way to really guage how deep/bassy the exhaust sounds unless you're standing right there. This set up is much louder than my old 18" but is still deep/throaty. Low-mid rpms rowing throw gears has gotten significantly more loud---but in that deep throaty spectrum. Not ricer at all. You know it's a Tacoma V6 coming, and not a Civic lol.

On a scale of 1 to 10 10 being the most how much louder is it than the18" and how much more drone?

It's hard to give you an a rating on that since I wasn't running the 18" canister as a turn down before the rear axle like I am now with the 14". The 18" I was running with a custom tailpipe kicked out behind the passenger side rear tire so it was built as quiet as you can make a custom catback.

I would imagine, all things equal, I would rate a turndown 14" a solid 6 on a scale from 1-10 on how much louder it would be over an 18".

It should also be noted that I was running the "fatter" 5x8 canister on the 18". The "slimmer" canister would be the 4x9(thinner, wider) which also would be a little louder:

On the 14" I have now, I opted for the slimmer 4x9 canister as a turndown so you could imagine the volume difference in my particular setups was huge:

As for drone, there is no way around it. The 14" will drone a good bit more than the 18". Running a turndown will only amplify the drone....BUTTTTT I am running a set of Thorley headers which help cut the deep annoying kind of drone on the fwy with a more throaty tone.

A good muffler shop will "clamp" on different mufflers for you to sample as they build your exhaust to see what tone you like best.

I had a Flowmaster and even an 11 inch Magnaflow clamped on for a quick set of revs before settling with the 14. The previous were just too raspy for me.

On the Flowmaster vs Magnaflow debate, here is what my muffler guy told me[and he actively sells BOTH brands]:

the Flowmasters are good for people who PREDOMINATELY drive freeways...being that it's an aluminized construction, the moisture build up during stop and go city driving will deteriorate the insides quickly and ultimately resulting reduced performance, and could even start to "choke" the exhaust system. If you're a freeway driver, the moisture has no time to settle as it's always being pushed out since you're driving at constant rpm's.

The Magnaflow, he says, is perfect for those who drive everywhere else because it's fully stainless and is not phased by moisture. It'll be quieter than the Flowmaster, but it will GENERALLY last a lot longer.

I ran Dynomax Super Turbo on my old pre-Tacoma Yota, only to replace it with the Magnaflow lol. They sound great, perform consistently across any vehicle, and LAST.

Sounded cleaner. I had the 22RE in my '94 Yota so being a 4-banger, it would have that raspiness to it that could get annoying. The Dynomax was a nice muffler, but too much rasp. The Magnaflow was the same volume pretty much, just much more clean in sound.

Well I have had no muffle for a long time so anything is quiter. I don't want it to scream its head off anymore and don't want my ears to be ringing after longer drives. Hat does IRS sound like above 2500 rpm?

swweeet dude thanks. i def. want quieter and since i got my 33s sitting in the yard mybe the 18" magnaflow will give it its stock torque back cause isint it a dual chamber? i am leaning more toward the 18" because i am scared the 14" will be pretty loud and then i will say to myself i should have just left the muffler off and not wasted my money. i just want a little growl when i want it.
