I should probably clarify this: there were definitely a few of the "red stitching" versions that looked cheap to me. Example here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRD-Gear-Sh...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item2a15a86962. Searching for a "TRD shift knob" brings up a bunch of results, most of which aren't very consistent. All I know is that once I realized part # PTR04-00000-05 was the OEM version, that's the one I wanted. Specifically, I bought from this guy on ebay (I probably should have just mentioned this in the first place): http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRD-Black-L...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item2317e2f59b

Which part # did you use, Walter? I wouldn't put too much stock in that. Toyota themselves say that the shift knob won't fit my '99. I'm not entirely sure why they say that, since the diameter of the stick itself is exactly the same between first and second gen manual trans pickups. The knob itself is self-threading, as well.

Here's a pic I snapped just yesterday of it. I do realize there's a slight color variation between the new knob and the 4WD knob and the rest of the interior, but that doesn't bother me in the least. One other thing I should mention: this knob is slightly bigger than the OEM version, but I think that contributes to a more solid "feel". It's just... beefy :D

Ok, just to bring this all together... :)

I can tell you, with confidence, that the OEM Toyota TRD 5 speed shift knob, part # PTR04-00000-05 will fit on your pickup. So, there's that.

It's entirely possible Toyota offered one with red stitching. I didn't bother to look very carefully, as I prefer the black stitching, and was put off by the cheapo ones with the red. If that knob that the "speeduppro" vendor on eBay (your original link) is OEM, then that's a good deal, for sure.

I just bought one of this guy on ebay. Thanks.

I'm a bit bummed because there is a TW member selling his used one for cheaper, but I can't find that thread :(

I plan on using vinyl paint to match the transfer case knob to the TRD shifter

    No prob

It's going to be awhile seeing that I probably have to wait until spring for proper application/curing temperatures.

I just swapped the 4wd one and 5 speed one. Let a friend drive it and it screwed with his mind when he first saw it.
