Toolbox question

I'm looking into getting a UWS low profile toolbox.

two main questions;

Will it scratch my bed rails since i dont have a bedshell that extended there, or a bedliner?

How is it secured/clamped in?

different tool boxes are different ways. i know on the low profile me and my brother put in his f-150 there was no way to secure it. we drilled through the box and bed and bolted it in.

 

I use J- Hooks to secure mine

 

I know you said you were looking at UWS boxes ...good box ...do they list extra parts too???

I have both a bedliner and black plastic bedrail protectors( great deal from a 4x4 shop closing )

I have their low-pro box in my '02 Tacoma and it is attached with their "Grip-Rite mounting kit", 2 of the pocket trays....and has NEVER given me any problems....

The Grip-Rite should work on any bed-rail box set-up and they make it MUCH easier to remove your box for added bed space....over the J-hooks I used to keep my steel box secure......

My old over the rails toolbox I had I mounted by drilling through the toolbox and the bedrails. It rubbed off the paint where the toolbox was sitting so once I removed the toolbox I herculined my bedrails.

 

My tool box is held on with J hooks, no drilling required and it's pretty solid. The box also came with some foam strips to stick onto the bed rails so there would be no direct contact with the paint. That being said, after having the box on for years, the sticky foam strips have shifted slightly, and there is definitely some wear on the paint on the bedrails. If I were to do it again new, I'd just make sure I got some wider strips and secured everything better. I believe that that would be enough.
