When I bought my taco a month ago one of the things I new going into it was that the speedometer didn't work. There was a quote from a dealership from 4 years ago that said it needed a new dash unit. Unfortunately driving an american truck in Canada nobody knew exactly what putting the metric unit would do in this truck (the odometer being the issue here, not the speedo obviously). Anyways I finally tracked down a new cluster in the states and had it shipped here, luckily for me it also has a tach where as my old one did not. I got it all installed and it works great, except that the ABS light now stays on. What could this mean? I don't even know if I have ABS, What would be the easiest way to find out?

take a picture under your hood on the passenger side i believe. If you have abs there will be a box with bralke lines running to it. It would be beside the cruise control if you have that option. If you do not have abs I would just pull the bulb.

Yeah your 00 didnt come with it, they were standard starting in 01 , just pull the bulb from the cluster and call it a day. :)

I have a cruise control in that area as well.

I don't have abs, and am looking to do a cluster swap. About where on the back of the cluster did you pull the bulb?

remove the whole assembly and remove one bulb at a time and hold the assembly up to the light. you can see the outline of what the bulb would have lit up. hard to explain, but once you see it, it'll be obvious.

If I remember correctly it's even easier than this. I'm pretty certain that the back of the cluster is labeled with ABS. That being said, it's pretty straight forward as there aren't that many bulbs.

Does the odometer work correctly in the "new" cluster you installed? I didn't think the "new" style cluster with the electronic odometer would work for vehicles that were not previously equipped with an electronic odometer. Your "old" cluster did not have the electronic odometer.

You are correct, my previous cluster did not have the digital readout for the odometer. But the new one does have it and it does work. I can't remember which year they changed from mechanical to electronic speedo - you have a 1995? This seems to be on the early end in my mind. Best to pull the cluster from your truck and check the connections.

95-97 was the cable style, 98+ is electronic.
