After frame replacement problems.....I dropped my 2001 tacoma truck back off at the dealers this morning and got a phone call telling me later in the day that they cant align the bed according to the service writer. Then a call laterfrom the service manager said the truck has allowable variances in gaps and that he wont do anything on the truck untill the FSM rep from toyota pooks at it on the 24 january. This rep I'm sure is just another good ol boys in the dealers chain of command so I called in a case to toyota corp also.

Fix the bed if thats what is wrong. This truck has had lots of problems since it came back from the dealer. One of them was fixed by pullin the bottom of the front brake dust shields up.

They are saying that the variances are allowed? Is it a danger? Perhaps when they put on the frame things were not adjusted around it? Such as the brake shields?

Got any pics of this? I would agree with the guy that small variances are normal, but if it's like the box is rubbing the cab that's bad.

I can slip my fingers in between the cab bed on one side and cant on the other. They shimmed the left side of the bed and it looks good but did not readjust the bumper. I didnt think shims would be needed on a bed?

Oh that's bad. I wonder if you can take it to another dealer to have it adjusted, you know - in a second opinion sort of way.

The Toyota rep that comes out is actually from Toyota and does not work for the dealership at all. Everytime there is a rep from Toyota that comes to my job its always a different one and nobody has seen them before. Weird the way it works.

What other problems have happened since the new frame? And do you have your truck now or is it still at the dealer?

Missing bolts, nut loose hose on PS pump. Scratches they didnt fix and light out on the dash that worked befor they did the frame. The rubber inner fender shields were ripped up and tossed back on that way.

my frame was replaced in 2010, got the shop to put in a new front diff the other day, they said whoever did the frame overtourqed 4 of the kframe bushings by 40 pounds he had to replace them and did it free of charge, love the trucks dislike dealers.

You need to go to the dealership and raise hell. This is just bad work done by the technicians. I do not know if the FSM can help you, as each dealership is privately owned.

I had a problem with a dealership service and got the FSM involved, it did not get anything resolved. Your case may be different. In hind sight, I should have threaten the dealership with a court case, maybe it would have got the issue resolved.

I'm not to crazy about this dealer, I've been back 4-5 times after frame replacement. That was one of my questions..Is it the dealers problem or the Toyota corp?

I had a lot of issues with mine too. After a lot of arguing, my dealer and the Factory Service Rep determined that the new frame was defective. The issue was that where the leaf spring shackle mounts were welded on the new frame. The body shop was the one that finally determined this to be the issue. Seems that it is only an issue with the double cabs and not any of the other frames. They put a second new frame on mine (without confirming that it was constructed properly) and it was the same as the previous. The end result was that Toyota Corporate instructed the dealership to shim the bed so that it was closer to being level and to rotate the bed so that there was closer to equal spacing on each side between the bed and the cab. I fought and fought with Toyota Corporate that it should be fixed properly and not half assed. Never got anywhere with them and gave up. Hope that you have better luck than I did.

Sounds that way but this was fall/winter of 2010. That means that Toyota has known for well over a year that Dana is continuing to build some replacement frames for double cabs incorrectly.

Well I guess we will have to see what the rep says. But in the meanwhile, I'd do some googling to see if this is an ongoing issue, copy the complaints and bring it with you if you go to meet the rep. Also, I'd call corporate to let them know what is going on so you can start a file.
