Spark plug question
Hi all love the site! I've got an 03 taco 4cyl 4x4. The dealer told me I need to have the plugs changed every 30k miles but I've been reading here that the 4cyl. has 100k mile plugs and only the v6 needs to be changed every 30k. My question is is it the 2nd gen. 4cyl that have the 100k mile plugs or does my 03 4cyl have them also?

im honestly not too sure which plugs the 01-04 4cyl tacomas came with, but i do know the 2nd gen 4cyl tacomas have the iridiums from the factory. easiest thing to do will be to just go ahead and pull one plug and see what it is. then you'll know if you need to go ahead and change them or not......................and you can diy for way cheaper than what the stealer is going to charge you.

You need to change your plugs at 30,000 miles. Only the Second gen 2.7 has the "100,000" mile plugs.
And Welcome to Tacoma World! :-)

Yup, what Chris said! You need to change your plugs out every 30K with the dual pronged/electrode ones.

Here's question number two, how in the freak do you get the ignition coils off. They look very delicate to me. I always changed my own plugs on my cars but these ignition coils are new to me.

Related Subject: Spark Plug Wires
I just finished replacing the spark plugs on my Tacoma 3.4 V-6, one cylinder bank had Denso's and the other NGK's. Someone was lazy.
Here is my related question, my Taco has 104K and is equipped with the original OEM spark plug wires, should I be concerned? The truck was running good before hand and although I have not priced them I am pretty sure those OEM wires cost a bunch because of their unique design. I have used NGK wires on a Pathfinder and have been quite happy with them. So what's better 1) OEM or 2) NGK wires?

I think NGK will be fine with the Taco, but IIRC the pricing for NGK and the OEM ones weren't too different.
