valve clatter at start up 3.4L

Sometimes, I get a little valve clatter on start-up, then it goes away.
In my 3.4L with 183K - I've owned this truck since day one, use Casterol GTX 5w30 changed with filter every 3-4K.
I don't know if the valves are adjustable, I've owned VWs and know how to adjust valves but thought this engine didn't require it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

You could check clearences. The valves on the 3.4L are a pain to adjust though being shim in bucket design.

Some discount filters don't have a backflow preventer.
I got into some of these and clatter at start up was noticeable.

Cold weather will contribute as well.

all valves require maintainance. think about how many times that valve has hit the seat over the last 183k miles. if you have never had them adjusted, thats a likley cause. shim and bucket valves can suck, but should still be checked, although i dont know the service interval.
