Nocking noise.

i know this has most likely been posted but i can't find it. i have a 2001 tacoma dbl cab 4x4 with 215k miles. i have a 3" spacer and AAL. this has been happening with in the past year. I've had the lift for almost year n' half give or take. I've been having some weird popping noises in the front end of my truck...it only happens when i go over bumps or curbs. i figured it could be the bushings on the control arms and thus allowing them to shift side to side...or i need a new suspension upgrade? please help i have no idea what this could be. i also have a really bad shaking problem when driving at normal speeds from stop to 70mph. and also the well know shaking when slowing down. i have replaced rotors, pads 4 times now and I'm tired of it. i have also changed the calipers on the last time i changed rotors and pads. please give me your knowledge! oh i also just recently replaced the steering rack and tie rods. i know i need to get the energy bushings.

Edit: its really any type of bump that causes the suspension to compress is better way of putting it. it occurs at low speeds but i heard it the other day hammered how on the highway doing....80ish:/

That's all the knowledge I have. Sorry. Although at 215K miles and a spacer lift you might want to check your shocks/springs. If they're original, you might be putting a lot of stress on worn-out parts.

 

sounds like your coil over top plates

 

sounds like the knock is ball joint related and the shaking is your worn out steering rack bushings.....just replaced mine today no more shaking while going or braking.....it is cheap and simple to do energy suspension make a kit for our trucks. took me about 1 hour.....

so maybe new UCA's, ball joints, bearings (while I'm at it), front suspension...im sure all parts are stock. i bought it used, it was traded in the day i bought it...2-3 years ago now.

 

ya you might as well...def worth the money if you got it....go with new coils new shocks and get your b joint replaced....and ditch the coil spacers....if possible get some eibachs or ome coils and some billy shock if it just a dd with mild offroad use.

 

and i dont think ucas are a necessity unless you have alignment issues or to just get better performance from the lift.

 

mostly better performance for lift.

yes, sorry. it turns out that the cv axle was snapped at both joints
never thought to look at that but i did check it to make sure and it seemed okay when i did. but i got the new cv axle today and i will be converting to manual hubs

 

This may be a very dumb question, but how did you notice the CV axle was bad? Do you have any pictures of what it looked like? The reason I ask is I've been having the same problem for a while now. It makes a clunking/knocking noise while going over any bump, mainly at low speeds. I poked my head under there but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, but I don't really know what to look for.

 

put it in 4x & you'll know soon enough....

 

haha well that settles that. my 4wd works fine. I'll hop under there again when I can and take another look. Maybe rack bushings?

 

I rotated the wheels like it was going down the road. Passenger side was easy to rotate. But driver side would turn 180 degrees then "seize" up until I forced it to rotate and then 180 degrees again it did the same. While doing all of this I was watching the cv. It would do a wobble motion or a unbalanced motion depending on how fast you turned it. I figured wen going at highway speeds or when ever it is turning it is cause the wobble feeling going down the road. Sorry if I repeat myself, I'm doing this on my iPhone. I will take pictures when I get off. They won't be good cause I will be going to school shortly after I get off.

it looks like a normal driveshaft until you actually see it in motion. with the wheel off and on stands.

 

sorry, been busy with work. I'm fixing cv, and wheel bearing tomorrow so ill post and let you know if that solves it. i changed the rack and not the bushings and it is perfectly fine. doesn't move or anything...i changed rack roughly around 200k miles i believe, I'm gonna start a log of when i change things from now on.
