I know this has been covered hundreds of times and everyone has there own opinion, but is it safe to do the deck plate mod with a K&N drop air filter, and also would hot air not be an issue?

    Yes...it is safe.

I had that setup on my 96 tacoma years ago. Kept the deck plate open 95% of the time (6" deckplate).

The only reason (that I can think of) for getting a check engine light...is if you're OVER OILING your K&N filter. Too much oil on the filter results in the oils getting all over the MAF sensor.

if you do not use a "sensor safe" silicone to seal the deck plate ring to the air box then you could throw a code
